NAPOLEON
The authorities take the dog meant to stay with an elderly woman in her final moments. Based on a true story.
In Development. Planned for 2026
Background
Napoleon is about a healthy older woman who wishes to define the end of her life on her own terms, but does not want to be alone when it happens. EXIT denies her request, her daughter lives far away, and even the comforting dog is taken from her. What is quiet often slips through the cracks: too healthy to die, too weak for a dog. This gray zone fascinates me.
Inspired by the real case of Heidi Schärer (Solothurn, 2024), who had to give up her dog at age 88, the film explores the delicate tension between care, autonomy, and age discrimination.
